As the Climate Adaptation Policy Analyst in the Center for Conservation Innovation at Defenders, Ted is working to ensure that the federal government addresses climate change impacts and adaptation for wildlife and ecosystems. He has been heavily involved in updating the National Fish, Wildlife and Plants Climate Adaptation Strategy, has provided input to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and the National Climate Assessment, and has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers. He is a Certified Ecologist by the Ecological Society of America and is certified by the State of Maryland as a qualified forest professional.
His prior position oversaw all the science issues associated with strategic conservation projects at the Conservation Fund, including developing multi-state, multi-species habitat conservation plans for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the wind and natural gas industries. He also performed habitat modeling; landscape, watershed, and field-based ecological assessments; ecosystem services valuations; and identifying and prioritizing areas for conservation and restoration. Before that, he worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, where among other projects, he designed one of the nation’s first “green infrastructure” networks of key habitats and connecting corridors.He is also a published speculative fiction author.
