FWS Funding Request FY 2022

The FY 2022 update on the funding needs for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) endangered species program, building on CCI’s funding analysis from 2019 , where we found that the FWS receives less than half of what is needed to run the ESA as Congress intended. In 2021, Congress increased funding for the FWS endangered species program by 3.7% - a crucial step in the right direction but still falling short of meeting the needs of ESA-listed species. Because of this, we have increased our funding request for fiscal year 2022 to include an additional $61 million to put Congress back on track to meet the needs we first identified in our 2019 analysis.
