FWS Funding Request FY 2024

The FY 2024 update on the funding needs for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) endangered species program, building on CCI’s funding analysis from 2019 , where we found that the FWS receives less than half of what is needed to run the ESA as Congress intended. In 2021, Congress increased funding for the FWS endangered species program by 3.7% - a crucial step in the right direction but still falling short of meeting the needs of ESA-listed species. In our latest analysis, we found that for fiscal year (FY) 2024, the FWS needs $841,370,000 to fully implement the ESA.
