Abstract

EarthEnticate is under construction but will eventually become a mobile friendly web app that lets users look for habitat loss within the range of their favorite endangered species, while simultaneously helping Defenders improve machine learning algorithms that automatically detect habitat loss. The app will provide an easy and engaging interface that shows users a pair of satellite images and any habitat loss identified by these algorithms. Users will be able to give a ‘thumbs-up’ or ‘thumbs-down’ to let us know whether the change that the algorithm identified was real, or a false positive. This feedback will then be used as training data to improve the predictive performance of our algorithms - helping us to more confidently identify habitat loss in the future!
